देवेंद्र फडणवीस को भाजपा विधायक दल का नेता चुने जाने के बाद मुख्यमंत्री पद की शपथ दिलाई गई। फडणवीस ने 2014 में प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के नेतृत्व में भाजपा को ऐतिहासिक जीत दिलवाई थी और फिर 2019 में एक बार फिर मुख्यमंत्री बने थे, हालांकि यह सरकार मात्र 72 घंटे ही चल पाई थी। अब, फडणवीस तीसरी बार मुख्यमंत्री पद की शपथ लेकर महाराष्ट्र के नए नेतृत्व के रूप में सामने आए हैं।

Mumbai: After the massive victory of the Mahayuti alliance in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for the third time on Thursday. Alongside him, Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers.

The grand oath-taking ceremony took place at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, with the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and several Chief Ministers and Union Ministers from the BJP and its NDA alliance partners. The event marked the formal beginning of the new government in Maharashtra.

Shinde Decided to Take Deputy CM Role at the Last Moment
Eknath Shinde, who served as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister from 2022 to 2024, agreed to take on the role of Deputy Chief Minister at the eleventh hour, just moments before Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Mumbai. Initially, Shinde had expressed his displeasure over not being offered the Chief Minister’s post but eventually accepted the Deputy CM position.

Despite the Mahayuti alliance securing a landslide victory with 230 seats out of 288 in the Assembly, the oath of office was only administered to the Chief Minister and the two Deputy Chief Ministers. The swearing-in of the other cabinet members from the three parties—BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP—is still under discussion, as no other candidates were sworn in on Thursday.

Cabinet Formation Pending
Although the Mahayuti alliance has a clear majority, no additional ministers were sworn in during the ceremony. According to the rules, the Maharashtra Cabinet can have a maximum of 43 ministers, including the Chief Minister. Talks regarding the final allocation of ministerial portfolios are still ongoing.

Fadnavis Takes Over as CM for the Third Time
Devendra Fadnavis, who was elected as the BJP legislative party leader, was sworn in as the Chief Minister for the third time. Fadnavis, who led the BJP to a historic victory in 2014, also served as Chief Minister for a brief period in 2019, before the government collapsed after 72 hours. Now, he returns to the Chief Minister’s office once again, marking the beginning of a new political chapter for Maharashtra.
